BP #7 - Financial Responsibility - Summary and Response

In the article Bonus Reading Financial Responsibility For All: A Myth Or Reality? By Lubie Grujicic-Alatriste, there are three major reasons of financial responsibility of young people.  The first reason is a lack of knowledge and correct information about taking credit. Another reason, college students can easily get a credit card at college campuses. Finally, institution banks don’t want to have involved in misleading the problems that may occur of having a credit card and having lack information about credits. However our society should be more financially responsible when it comes to credit and spending.
After I read the article, I agree with all the statements. Because I believe that many young people doesn’t have enough knowledge about credit card, loans, bill-payments and spending. So this article would be so helpful for college students not to get involve into too much debt. As an example, my cousin has graduated from college 6 years ago, he have a job as a cartoon designer, but he still owe the government a lot of money that he have not done paying yet. I guess that he have to continue paying for many years.
College students who have been hurt by owning too much credit cards, they should be more responsible, when it comes to credit and spending. Otherwise, young people will get more financial problems over time.

BP #6 - Mini Essay on HeLa and Informed Consent

The book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", by Rebecca Skloot. Contains many stories about how doctors were doing research on patients without their consent, also without informing them of what they were going to be tested for. This is an irresponsible incident that occurred during the 1940’s and 1950’s. However, there is no justification for this, because we all have the right to pursuit the truth and doctors should most respect patients’ decisions before they are being tested for any kind of research.

I wasn't aware of this history before a read the book  that doctors were doing research on patients without their consent and knowledge. For example, on chapter  25 “The doctor also gathered samples of Moore’s blood and other tissue on future visits; he told Moore’s that his continued health depended upon such testing but did not reveal that he was keeping the samples to aid in his research.  The resulting cell line, Mo, now has a market value of around $3 billion…”.  According to this Moore’s doctor took his blood and other tissue sample to keep them in his research without his permission.

In conclusion, i think that doctors and researchers of the past had a completely difference basic view of people than they do today. Therefore, doctors and researchers of the past doesn’t tolerate patients own decision. They were using patients as a research subjects, most of the time without their consent, also without their knowledge. However, doctors and researchers most take patients opinion seriously before they are being tested for any kind of research. Because, humans have the right to pursuit the truth of what they are going to be tested and decide to whether do it or not doctors most respect their decision.

BP #5 - Mini Essay on one of the articles (posted below)

I think that sustainable restaurants are the best way to offer healthy eating options and the entire sustainable restaurant should follow their ways. Because, it have been improving different aspects of health, food and the environment. This important event has occurred thanks to the collaboration of the citizens and the city government that they have been focused in their lives by changing the sources of their food. Also, I think that it is possible for more restaurants to use more sustainable practice, because it can help meet nutritional needs and provides jobs opportunities for all those peoples who grow, harvest and sell food. However, people consider a healthier future, safer and truly sustainable farming.

BP #4 - Going Green

-To be honest i really do concerned about food  sustainability when i shop for food. Because, food sustainable are safe, healthy and nutritious. Another reason, it is because they respect the environmental limits in its production and processing, while reducing energy consumption and improving the wider environment; it also respects the highest standards of animal health and welfare, compatible with the production of affordable food for all sectors of society. I do try must of the time to reduce my carbon footprint when i'm buying food or other products. because, greenhouse causes global warming which is harming the environment. Organic food has become very popular in many parts of the world. As the demand for organic food increases their  production. However, "Going Green" lead us to be more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources now and future generations.

BP #3 - Mini Research on HeLa themes

American history (politics, economics, social factors) in the 1940s / 1950s

 CIVIL RIGHT MOVEMENTS

Movement for racial equality in the United States that through nonviolent protest, broke the pattern of racial segregation in the South and achieved equal rights legislation for black people. This crisis was a struggle by African Americans during 1950s to 1960s because the wanted to be treated equal as white people. For example, equal education, housing, and equal opportunity of employment also the right to be free of racial discrimination. According to the law African Americans are required  to sit in the back of the city buses and to give up their seats to whites should the white section when the bus become full. As an example, on December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, was arrested because she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus.
By the late 1960s, African Americans still suffered from many disadvantages, including poverty rates that were much higher than those among whites and physical health that was much worse. Racially motivated violence persisted as well, as seen in the assassination of King by a white man in 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. was a minister and activist who led the U.S. civil rights movement from the 1950s until his 1968 assassination. However, these problems of the civil rights movement had completely changed the face of the United States of America. Such as  law and politics. For example, it has gave a greater protection to the rights of minorities, also  the Supreme Court had become more active in its defense of individual rights. As a result, the Court and the civil rights movement had great influence on each other, with each reacting to and encouraging the efforts of the other. Also, the federal government had enforced the rights of a persecuted minority in the face of vigorous opposition from the southern states.

BP #2 - Taking advantage of someone

People who care about you wont try to take advantage of you and you will feel secure around them.I used to have a friend who always relies on me whenever she is going through something. I'm always there to listen to her, to answer her calls and reply to her texts, comfort her when she is upset and crying, etc. when other friends aren't. This has happened to me when someone took advantage of me. It was freshman year in high school a person who i always called "my best friend", the only person who i ever trust become my enemy. She was a person who was just using me the entire year, she will only called me whenever she wants me to do her favors. Such as, helping her with the homework's, and going anywhere she wants me to go with her.
I think that HeLa's family they may be feel a little bit upset  after the doctor took advantages on Hela. because, when someone is taking advantage of you, you will not completely feel safe with them. Anytime there is a question about someone's motives, that is an indication that you cannot trust that individual. However, you may not realize at the beginning when people are taking advantages of your generosity until they have taken them all.

BP #1-Introduction

Hey!! Everyone my name is Lay Gi Ng, I was born on December 10, 1990  in Colombia, a warm and sunny country. As a child growing up, I was taught that I needed to set some standards for my life. Many events have taken place during the course of my life. In particular I remember when I was 15th I moved away from Colombia  and came to the United States. It was really a hard time starting a new life, a new beginning  in a new country. A place where you still don’t  know nobody and how you communicate whit them.   But no matter how hard it was for me or my family, the most important thing that i know is because I’m here to take this great opportunity to succeed in life. . After i graduated from John Bowne H.S in 2011, i have decided to start my first year at LaGuardia Community college and hopefully i'm going to transfer to Long Island University by next year, and the first and most important goal is  to become a Occupational Therapist. . I like to watch TV. The programs I like the most are the Simpson, C.S.I., Bones, sports, and Spanish TV programs. I watch them sometimes on weekdays, but more on weekends. My friends and my cousins like to watch them with me. We eat a lot of snacks when we are all together watching these programs on weekends.
